Grilse have not arrived yet in big numbers

There was some good fishing enjoyed around and above Foxford in the last 2 weeks, with East Mayo waters probably scoring best. There were 36 fish being reported last Wednesday, with many fresh springers. Pontoon Bridge was doing well also.

The bulk of the grilse is not in yet. Lets keep our fingers crossed, that these fish arrive soon.

Here the report of the NWRFB for the week ending 2 June:
The water levels continued to drop early on in the week which resulted in good fishing in all fisheries above Ballina and exceptional fishing reported in the Foxford area.
Heavy rain has the river in flood again and it will be a few days before it clears and begins to drop.
Good numbers of fish, mainly grilse, are going through and with the dirty water Pontoon Bridge is a popular spot where many fish are being caught.
268 salmon were reported for the week.
A Kildare angler had heaviest fish weighing 16lbs.
George Henson and Jane Ellis from Tamworth in England enjoyed a brilliant week’s fishing in the Foxford area when they caught 6 salmon best fish 9.5lbs.
Granville Nesbitt Ballina had two fish weighing 14.5 and 14lbs.
Red John Coleman Foxford assisted two of his friends to catch 3 salmon between 14 and 15lbs.
John Borrow Wales had one fish weighing 13.5lbs.
Paul Ainwright Cheshire had 2 salmon weighing 13.5 and 12lbs.
The Jacques Pierre party of four from France had 17 fish for the week best fish 14.5lbs.
