Early Spring Fishing - some fish being caught around Foxford

The fishing is still slow enough. There was almost no rain in the last two weeks. The river above the joinings pool in Clongee is very low, with a few fish being caught. There were reports of some fine fish being caught in the local stretch in Foxford. Also other parts of the river are reporting the odd fish. There are still lots of kelts hanging around and I had to return 2 myself.

The river below Clongee is still fairly high due to a lot of water pushing down from the lake river. The weather forecast is not promising any rain before Monday night, so the water levels will drop further. I have seen fish running straight upriver and the only chance to get a fish is to intercept him on the way upstream.
The rain promised for Monday night to Wednesday might improve the fishing a bit.

It is also very nice to see lots of parr salmon around. They are feeding in the shallows were they are save from predators as pike and cormorants. In a few weeks time the smolts will go to the sea and hopefully many of them return in the years to come.

The on the left is showing "Red John" Coleman in Tiernans Tackle Shop with his first salmon of the season. The fish was 10 pounds.
